The following replicates composition dependent basic hit/stand strategy when dealer's up card is 10 for 8 or fewer decks if followed in its entirety. Most of the gain in EV (over total dependent basic strategy) can be realized in the section labeled "more important"; of less importance are "refinements". Also, the more decks, the less gain.

BASIC HIT STRATEGY - more important
(Note: any reference to surrender means late surrender)

Hit these hands to a total of 17 or more
8-8 (if not split hit, but surrender if possible)
7-9 (surrender if possible)
any hand that contains 6-6, 6-7, 6-8, 6-9, 6-10 (surrender 6,9 or 6,10 if possible)
(Single deck refinement for hand w/6-6 possible stand on 15 - see below)

Hands other than above - hit to a total of 16 or more
(Single deck refinement - stand on 7,7 or possibly stand on 15 - see below)

Hit soft hands to a soft total of 19 or more
(Single deck refinement - stand on soft 18 if hand contains 2-3, 3-3, or 2-2-2 - see below)

REFINEMENTS - less important

APPLIES TO SINGLE DECK ONLY - stand on these hands
7-7 (surrender if possible)
5-5-5 4-5-6 3-6-6 1-4-5-5 1-3-5-6 1-2-6-6
1-1-3-5-5 1-1-1-6-6 1-1-1-1-5-6
hands of soft 18 that contain 2-3, 3-3, 2-2-2

2-2-2-2-2-6 (possible only if dealt from more than 1 deck - always hit)
